Walking the Lucca Wall, first Italian Haircut and Visiting Pisa
This is our last full day in Tuscany. After breakfast Alan wanted to walk the 2 1/2+ miles along the wall that surrounds the old city of Lucca. The wall is very wide and was built in Medieval times when the great width of it was used to survive cannonball assault. Now the road along the top of the wall is used by walkers, runners, and bicycles. There are even restaurants on top of the wall.
Chestnut trees with chestnuts all over the ground on the wall.

After Alan returned, Rod and Jim took Alan and I to their barber shop. It strictly only deals with men’ hair and shaves, and the three of them got haircuts and shaves or beard trims. It was Alan’s first Italian haircut.

After haircuts we drove into Pisa, about twenty minutes away. First we stopped for lunch at a hidden Greek restaurant called Ristorante Greco Itaca. The food was great and a change from Italian fare.
We then drove over to the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Duomo. Because it was lightly raining, the crowds were not bad.

We drove back to Lucca and Jim and Rod dropped us off to pack. A few hours later they picked us up again and we went to their favorite pizza place Funiculi. Alan and I had a prosciuto and walnut pizza and Jim and Rod tried the hot dog and French fry pizza, a great favorite in Lucca. Our pizza was great and their pizza got mixed reviews, but they said that they would order it again.

Tomorrow we fly from Florence to Rome to Palermo. On to the next adventure.
