Vienna, Day 1, October 13, 2018
Awakened in Vienna, and after breakfast, we got in the busses and took a quick drive around Vienna, giving us an overview. The pictures are all out of the bus window as we drove down the streets.
We then stopped and got out and walked to St. Stephen’s Square where we had some time to wander around. We used the time to go to a café for coffee and more sweets. BJ had hot chocolate and I had coffee and we split a coffee and cream and meringue concoction which was very good. We then walked back towards St. Stephen’s cathedral, passed Mozart’s home from when he lived in Vienna, and, on the way, noticed an advertisement for a chamber music concert of Mozart Violin Sonatas. We decided to try to get to it the following evening.
We stopped into St. Stephen’s which was impressive. We did not try to see St. Stephen’s arm which was the only thing left of him in Vienna.
We then walked back to the bus which dropped us at the ship. We stayed at the ship for the rest of the afternoon. I (Alan) needed a nap. An early dinner and then we got on a tourbus to take us to the Vienna Hofburg where we had the privilege of seeing and hearing a Mozart and Strauss concert, complete with a soprano, baritone, and two dancers.
We got back to the ship around 10:30 and were offered goulash soup as a nightcap. We declined this and fell quickly into bed.
