The Falkland Islands or is it the Islas Malvinas? Depends on whom you talk to.
You all remember the Falklands war of 1982 when Argentina decided that the Falkland Islands belonged to them and invaded. Margaret Thatcher, the Iron Lady, was Prime Minister of Great Britain at the time and responded with full British Navy force, recapturing the Falklands in short order. Even today, the Falklands only have a population of about 3600. There are probably more sheep than people. Stanley is the main city and the capital of this independent member of the British Empire.

Alan, after many days at sea, went on a nature hike. A nice leisurely 3 mile walk in the rain and wind. We haven’t seen the sun since Buenos Aires. The walk was along the harbor in and out of several different coves and was most notable for the variety of birds.

In the days before petrol or diesel oil heating, all heating and cooking was done with peat fires. One day a year was a day off work and school and everyone dug up enough blocks of peat to last them for a year.

The Magellanic penguins dig burrows into the peat. You can sometimes see the young ones in the burrow if you get down on your hands and knees. The male and female who are pair bonded for life trade off guarding the nest and getting food, taking one week shifts of each.

And now what you have all been waiting for. We went to Sabatini’s tonight for dinner. It is one of the specialty restaurants. First the menu, pick one from each course then pictures.

For those of you who don’t know, every male member of my family for at least 3 generations suffers from snatiation (look it up on Wikipedia). If we overeat, we sneeze. Meals can be rated by how many sneezes. Tonight was an 11 sneeze meal. My compliments to the chef.
