At Sea Day in a Gale (February 17)
Today was an at sea day and we are in the open South Pacific in the middle of a gale. It is, in truth, no where near as rough as the North Atlantic on our transatlantic trip, so it has affected us very little.
We spent the morning in a port lecture and then heard a lecture about Magellan and his voyage around the world. We ate a very light lunch down in the coffee bar and this afternoon went to the high-end wine tasting. There are two different wine tastings on longer Princess cruises, one with medium price wines and one with more expensive wines. At the more expensive wine one, the wines are paired with canapés to give you an idea of what might taste good together. For my wino friends, whoops, I mean wine loving friends, here are the six wines and the pairings. The first was a Nicolas Feuillatte , a French champagne paired with a salmon mousse canape. Then came an Orvieto Ruffino (really good) paired with cream cheese and salmon eggs. Third was a California Chardonnay Silverado paired with a tuna mousse, then a Pine Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon with salami and cheese. Fifth was a Giordano “Tradizione” Barolo paired with a meatball or with salami and breadsticks, (yum!), and last was Overture by Opus out of California served with dark chocolate. This is the second cruise we have done this tasting on, and it did not disappoint.
We also put a deposit down for a future cruise (to be determined) which gets us some discounts.
The internet is still not strong enough to post the blog, so we are just saving up the entries and will post when we can.
After dinner we stopped the Salty Dog bar and heard the Bujacich Tango Quintet again. We got to again watch a 75 year old Argentine and his 50ish wife/girlfriend dance an awesome tango. We are such party animals that we stayed there until after ten.
