Arrivederci Palermo, Ciao Trapini
This may be a long blog entry. We are three days behind. Shannon has such great things planned for us, several times a day, that sometimes we just don’t have time to blog for awhile.
On Monday, Day two of our wine tour, Alan went to Capo Market with the group, while BJ stayed in and slept in an attempt to help her cold. The group walked over to the Capo Market and Alan was able to see some things he hadn’t seen on Saturday.
Stuffed squid
Seafood galore
Phoenician Wall from 300 B.C.
Decorated Cart in Capo Market.
Next the group headed over to the church of Santa Catarina, a magnificent Baroque church.
The Fountain of Shame in front of the Nunnery. So called because the nuns could look out of their cloisters and see the nude statues. The alternative explanation is that the people were ashamed of the fact that the government of Palermo spent a huge amount of money to buy the statue and ship it from Rome when they bought it from a bankrupt spendthrift.
Looking back at the apse
Statue of Santa Caterina. The twisted pillars are in the Baroque style where every square inch is covered in decoration.
Back to the hotel, and Alan slept all afternoon. Then we walked to Ristorante Locale for a group meal.
Dinner, lots of wine and food and new friends.
The internet here is incredibly slow so we are stopping here More tomorrow.
