After breakfast we boarded the busses and went into Nuremberg.  After a quick tour around the city, we stopped at the Zeppelin field, site of the huge Nazi rallies in Nuremberg.  They were masters of appearance and propaganda.  It was all like a Hollywood blockbuster in a time when most of the people had no entertainment.  By the time the people figured out it was something more sinister, it was too late.

The museum is devoted to the process of the Nazi’s taking power and Nuremberg’s part in the process.  Then the museum switches over to the aftermath of the war, with the War Crimes tribunal of the Nuremberg trials. 90% of the city was destroyed by Allied bombing, so most of the city has been completely rebuilt.  We also stopped in front of the building where the Nuremberg Trials were held, but they are closed on Tuesday so we couldn’t see the courtroom.

Then we went inside the old city and had lunch with more beer, sausages and potato salad and pickled cabbage.  Very good.

A 3 hour bus ride got us to the new ship, the Viking Ve in Passau.

At dinner the waiters gathered round Alan and sang Happy Birthday and gave him a very good lemon cake.

Tomorrow we will back track a little and will go by bus to visit Regensberg and then return to Passau to tour the following day.

  1. Loki g forward to youth posts. We have been to many places on this itinerary but have, also, missed many. Maybe we should try this one. Would love t travel with you two sometime.

  2. That would be such fun. People keep saying we should do the one you have signed up for because Belgrave is so great. I think the next one we think about is the Southeast Asia one. Sound interesting to you?
