Alajos picked us up right on time.  Since the elevator was still broken, we were able to go through the adjoining apartment and use its elevator to get the luggage down six stories.  We got to the airport way ahead of time and had to wait to check in.  The Budapest Airport is hectic, to put it mildly, and even with Business Class Priority check in, we had to wait in line quite awhile.  Our landlord, John, was also in the line for the same flight.  His nonstop to Philadelphia had been canceled during the night and he had to get to London to catch another flight to New York.  The BA flight from Budapest to London was under 3 hours and we arrived at Heathrow in good time.  Thank goodness for Global entry.  We got to the hotel and checked in, but decided that after 30+ days of traveling and eating out, we didn’t want to go into London.  We just went to the reserved cocktail lounge, had hot and cold appetizers and wine and bourbon, and went back to the room.

The next day we flew from London to Philadelphia with no problems.  Again because of frequent flyer miles, we were able to fly business class and so were both very comfortable.  When we got to Philadelphia, we called SlowTrav friends Sheri and Joe and they came and picked us up for dinner.  We went to a neighborhood restaurant called Stogie Joe’s.  What fun.  We split mussels, Stromboli, bean soup, and a huge salad.  Great food and great company.  However, all great jet lag, so we called it an early night.

The next day we flew from Philadelphia to Dallas and Dallas to Albuquerque.  Josh picked us up and after we dropped him, we drove to Placitas, stopped at the Merc to pick up fried chicken, potato salad and cole slaw for dinner, greeted a thrilled Didi, unpacked some, and then fell into bed.  Now, a week later, our jet lag is gone and we are already talking about our next adventure, maybe Lucca, Sicily, and Venice in the Fall of 2019.  We will see.

  1. That is one long trip home. We are flying from Budapest to Rome on Alitalia. Wonder if that will be better then the long haul to the US. Although AlItalia is not the most dependable airline.
