Yesterday was the last day my cousins Barry and Lois were in Venice so we started early by going to the Jewish Ghetto.  We walked around there and when we went to go to the museum and some stores friends of theirs had recommended, we discovered everything was closed because of Jewish holidays.  Surely our favorite Kosher restaurant Gam Gam was open.  Nope.  Closed too.  So as luck would have it, we were seconds away from the vaporetto stop to the island of Murano and caught a vap to there almost immediately.  Luck was now on our side as it wasn’t crowded and Lois had really wanted to see Murano, the glass making island.  We got off, walked a short distance and they were able to see a glass blowing demonstration.  Then we walked over to our favorite restaurant there Trattoria Busa  alla Torre da Lele.  They actually had moeche which are thumb sized soft shell crabs, usually found in the springtime.  Yum, but no pictures.  Barry and I had that, Lois had sole and Alan had fish soup.  Everyone was very happy.  Just outside the restaurant is this wonderful glass sculpture:

We walked around the island a little and then caught a very quick vaporetto straight to San Marco.  We walked through the Square one last time with them, got a last gelato, and said our goodbyes.  They leave in the morning for more adventures elsewhere.

Home we came, had tramezzini for dinner and called it a day.  Today was laundry day.  As anyone who has traveled for a few weeks knows, that day must come around.  We are lucky to have a washer with the apartment, so three loads later (bless Alan, as it is up and down lots of steps), the wash was hung to dry.  In a day or two (Venice is very humid), we should be able to put it away.

Alan wanted to cook today, so he went to the market, the vegetable barge, and the wine store.  He bought fresh made capellaci stuffed with ricotta and spinach, which he topped with Marcella Hazen’s tomato sauce made with fresh tomatoes, fresh basil, garlic and olive oil.  YUM!

Tomorrow there are seven cruise ships due to arrive in Venice, so we plan on staying as far from the crowds as possible.  Sure hope we can!
