Yesterday, we had tickets for “Don Giovanni” by Mozart.  It was at La Fenice Opera House and each time we come to Venice we go to see an opera there. We had seen “Don Giovanni” at the Santa Fe Opera in 2016, but decided to see it again, so over a year ago, I had arranged for the tickets.  The seats were the best we have had at this venue, the production was excellent as were the voices, but, truthfully, “Don Giovanni” is not high on my favorite list of operas, and if I never see it again, that’s okay with me.

It was a long walk to the Opera House and an even, much longer walk to Fondamenta de la Misericordia where we were meeting Nan for dinner at Osteria de Rioba.  When we got there, Nan told us that she was feeling ill, and so just Alan and I went to dinner.  We had been there before and it was as good as we remembered. We sat outside next to the canal, and started off with sharing a plate of three marinated fish. Then Alan had a thick, paradella-like pasta with guinea fowl and I had gnocchi with crab.  We finished by sharing an almond bavarian cream with cocoa crumbles and salted caramel.  It was a great meal, and we would definitely go there again.

Today has been a grey, rain-threatening day, so Alan decided he wanted to cook.  He will be making pork chops with porcini mushrooms, and roasted vegetables to go with it.  Yum, and the apartment should smell great after he is done.
